Reiki Principles:

“Just for today, do not worry

just for today, do not anger

Honour your parents teachers and elders

Earn your living honestly

Show gratitude for all living things”

Reiki 1st degree is about self-healing and giving healing to friends and family. It is not a practitioner level course; therefore the main thing to consider is whether you feel comfortable with what the Reiki Master says about his/her course, their philosophy and whether you will have the opportunity to ask questions and practise on the day. You are attuned to the Reiki Energy as a transmission from Teacher to Student through non verbal means of communication. There will be accompanying notes about hand positions and getting started with using Reiki but the main focus before the attunement is on knowing how to get yourself into a calm, relaxed meditative state so that you will be open to receive. It is advisable for the week preceding the attunement to cut out any stimulants such as caffeine and alcohol and drink lots of pure water or herbal teas so as to flush and detox the system beforehand. Also spend a little time in quiet contemplation of why you are making this life choice.

You will receive a certificate at the end of your training as well as a comprehensive notes on the day that you receive the attunement.

It is believed that Mikao Usui taught Reiki over three levels;

  • Shoden (1st level)
  • Okuden (2nd level)
  • Skipaden (Master Level)

Taking a Reiki Atunement is one of the most important things that you could do in your life, and if you choose the wrong person to have your atunement with you will have a link with them for the rest of your life. So what should you consider when deciding whether a course will meet your particular needs or a teacher who will bring out the best in you? Check out the background and experience of anyone that you are considering learning with to see if you can establish a rapport with their philosophies as well as ther methods.

Personally I like the informal approach of teaching Reiki as it makes the whole experience more enjoyable as an enlightening process, as opposed to a classroom situation which can be very clinical and cold. Reiki is a very personal journey and anyone who you share the experience with you also need to be aware that there will be a bond between you for the rest of your life, perhaps even on to the next life too.
